On Friday, September 28th, we had more than 400 grandparents join us for the 14th Annual Grandparents’ Day at Holy Spirit.  The “Let’s Be Happy” themed day began with an hour-long performance in the Church.  Students from PK-3 through 8th grade performed a variety of songs, skits, and poems.  Grandparents listened to songs from Mickey Mouse Club, Sesame Street, Happy Days, Welcome Back Kotter, Friends, and The Brady Bunch.  The skits included lots of dancing, “flashbacks” to Happy Days, and recognition for all of the military and first responders who attended.  Our music teacher, Mr. Olmos, and our middle school theatre arts teacher, Mrs. Martinez, did an incredible job organizing the performance and preparing students for the show.

Grandparents won awards based on how far they traveled, how old they were, and how many grandchildren they had attending Holy Spirit.  Our youngest grandmother was 42, and the oldest was 92!  We had grandparents travel from Guatemala and Italy to join us for this special event, which was nothing short of spectacular!  One of our school families, with 5 children attending Holy Spirit, had all 4 of their grandparents in attendance, so both sets of grandparents won the award for most grandchildren.

After the show, grandparents were able to tour their grandchildren’s classrooms, visit the library to Adopt-a-Book, enjoy some refreshments, purchase items from our school store, and take a fun photo with their family.

As always, the day was filled with smiles, joy, pride and happiness.  We’re looking forward to seeing all our grandparents back next year!  It’s one of the most special days we have at Holy Spirit.
