Fr. Miguel Moreno

Our students have had a wonderful time getting to know Fr. Miguel through his homilies and his visits to our classrooms over the last few months. He often sings as he talks with the kids, and you can’t help but notice how he keeps their attention. Because Fr. Miguel joined Holy Spirit during the busy Christmas season, we didn’t really get a chance to introduce him. Today, we’re doing just that! Here’s a little about Fr. Miguel and his journey to become a priest…
Fr. Miguel Moreno has been a priest for the Archdiocese of San Antonio since May 2016. His first ministerial assignment was St. Luke Catholic Church & School. After two years, Fr. Miguel was reassigned to three smaller parishes on the east side of San Antonio: Holy Redeemer, Our Lady of Perpetual Help-SA, and St. Michael Catholic Churches. In January 2019, he was reassigned to Church of the Holy Spirit & School and is having a wonderful time! What he has enjoyed the most is preaching at the all masses, especially the school mass.
Prior to the priesthood, Fr. Miguel was known as “Mr. Miguel.” He was the lead teacher for the pre-kindergarten program and program specialist at KinderCare Learning Center. “Mr. Miguel” trained teachers in the San Antonio-Austin area KinderCare locations in early-childhood education and supervised center programs. He received the Honor Teach Award in 2002 & 2003, Lead Teacher award in 2004 & 2005, Excellence in Education award in Texas/Oklahoma Region in 2006, and the Inspiring Lead-teacher and Program Specialist award in 2008.
Fr. Miguel has been certified through The Program for the Formation of Spiritual Directors from St. Peter upon the Water. He received his Masters of Divinity from Oblate School of Theology in 2016, went through a summer of theological studies in the History of Jerusalem and of St. Thomas Aquinas at the University of Notre Dame, attended the Mexican-American Catholic College, and he received his Associates in Applied Science in Early Childhood Education at San Antonio College.
Fr. Miguel’s favorite thing to do is go swimming at the Guadalupe River. He likes camping, playing the guitar and singing. His favorite food is homemade Vanilla Ice Cream (Blue Bell). Fr. Miguel likes to write short poems and contemplate on God’s presence. Fr. Miguel has four sisters and four brothers. He grew up on the inner Westside of San Antonio and went to David Crockett Elementary School, Washington Irving Middle School, and Fox Tech High School. If you ever want to chit chat with him, give him a call at his office or email him. He looks forward to meeting you!
